Good question. Starting a brand is not easy. It’s definitely been a journey. The thing about starting your own brand is that you are literally responsible for EVERY part of the business. Yes it’s fun to design clothes and have them made but that’s just the beginning.
Finding good quality blanks, the right person to bring your designs to life, a logo designer. And this is even before you start with a website.
I use Shopify, it seems like the right fit for Shred clothing. There’s definitely a learning curve using an e-commerce store like Shopify though. I’ve designed websites before. Give me a local service based company any day!
E-comm is insanely different. Once you launch your site and fiddle around with design you then get the helpful/annoying bombardment of SEO and web design specialists. That’s a part time job in itself.
I used someone from Fivver to help with design in the early days. When I didn’t want to spend more my designer was not happy. I logged on one day to find my site blank. He’d deleted everything!! Lesson for anyone actually reading this: be careful who you let collaborate on your website.
Anyway enough negatives..
I have found this journey so interesting, I’ve learned so much about the clothing game, websites and human nature in general.
If your brand is out there enough and people are interested the sales will come.
Creating Shred was a fun way for my kids to wear their own designs, then I realized how much I enjoy that side of it and it became my baby.
We love seeing people wear our clothes. It never gets old! We love sending out free gear to up and coming kids & adults. Check out some of our recent posts of scooter and skateboarder riders.
Check out our brand. If you see something you like, grab it. We’d be forever grateful x
